Birgitte Henrichsen from Maersk and Lars Damgaard Nielsen, from DR, shared their experiences with developing and controlling the personal voice of the organization at our first transformational meeting, Re:connect. The event offered interesting presentations on how brands can strengthen their relations to customers, users and fans through personal communication. Besides presentations from Maersk and DR, the world famous performance artist, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, gave her perspective on the subject and the use of the personal voice to create human relations.
Proactive and holistic communication strategy
In recent years, Maersk has introduced a more proactive communication effort that involves media training of managers and more participatory and relevant content. Through local and regional stories, Maersk has enrolled itself in public debates that reflects the ‘shared value’ approach of the organization. More importantly, the organization has developed a purpose beyond logistics through i.e an active effort in creating jobs in developing countries. At re:connect, Head of Group Communication and Branding from Maersk, Birgitte Henrichsen, talked about how the organization has changed its approach to communication, and is now perceived as more modern and open. These changes has given Maersk a more personal voice towards clients and potential employees.
Specific and targeted communication effort
Editor of Social Media at DR, Lars Damgaard Nielsen, shed light on his daily work with balancing the personal voice of the programs and the collective voice of the organization on social media. To secure identification and interaction with the users DR has developed clearly defined communication strategies for each program, where the members of the editorial office is the sender of all communication. Through the development of targeted communication strategies, that comply with the overall strategy of the organization, DR holds the opportunity to create and develop communication platforms that match the individual target groups.
Self-realization and the personal voice
Lillibeth Cuenca Rasmussen delivered the artistic perspective of the evening with her work “Ego Song” and “Familiy Sha La La”. In “Ego Song”, Lilibeth portrays a diva who believes that egoism is the only way to live. However, her cynical self-realization is in obvious contrast to her need for the audience’s recognition, and emphasizes that one’s personal voice isn’t always enough. With “Family Sha La La”, Lillibeth challenges the widespread perception of families as homogeneous units when she illustrates how all members are unique individuals.
